Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 1,406: A-One and A-Two and…

So instead of aimlessly drifting around on the internet, I did some warm-up sketching, which was a bit more productive.

Between trying to get my pen to draw won the finicky sketchbook paper (the Canson books seem just as fussy as Art Alternatives when it comes to accepting ballpoint ink) and doodling around I found myself wondering a bit about the cavernous brow ridges some dragons (including my own) seem to have and how the dragon can even see anything. I didn’t come up with an answer, but I drew this:

I tried not to get stymied by the fact that the breath weapon (which I never really decided what it was) probably ought to be shedding light and I didn’t know what to do with all the surfaces, though I did get stuck on the ear/fin/whatever- it would already have deep shadows because the vanes were raised and the sails were recessed; what do I do with the added deeper shadows that the cheekbones should be throwing? Gah.
