So I’ve had the upcoming Dragons of Tarkir on my mind as I ponder whether or not I’ll be able to make the prerelease this weekend (as well as where I would even go if I do), and decided to do a bit of fanart:

I’m not 100% sure why I chose to draw Dragonlord Silumgar; maybe I thought he would be easy. If that’s the case, I was wrong, because he’s sooo scaly, with several kinds (or maybe just textures) of scales on his face alone, turning into vaguely spiky scales down his body, and requiring a lot of squinting at my computer screen.
While I managed to turn a pretty terrible-looking rough sketch into what you see now (and once again, I wish I’d taken some progress photos, but just believe me, at one point I very seriously considered tearing the page out of my sketchbook and throwing it away, because I was so disgusted with my apparent inability to dig my way out), I ran out of patience at points, but it’s late and I have another long day ahead of me.
