Dragon-A-Day Online: Day 1,084: Silk Purses.

I’m probably coming to the end of this Trogdor kick, but now that I know that Trogday is sometime in January, it at least gives me something to do next year. I was originally going to title this post “Burninate” or something and just leave it up as another one of those breath weapon sketches, but it seemed to deserve a bit more analysis:

So I either got it right or got it completely wrong.

I did this pretty much entirely from memory and didn’t realize that in the original drawing, Trogdor is shown in profile, and the arm doesn’t seem to have much of a connection- either because the shoulder is on the left side, like I’ve done, or it’s growing from the center of the back of his neck.

Also, unlike many dragons, Trogdor also has “hands” where the alar thumb would go, in addition to having additional vanes in his wings, which is an interesting design choice. There’s clearly scales on his flanks, so logic would dictate that he at least has large scales on his sides and back, if not some sort of scales on his underbelly.

On the whole, this was a lot of fun, but I think I’m coming to the end of it because I’m not sure what else there is to really do; this ground was probably trod more enthusiastically by others some 5 or 6 years ago, and also there’s other things I ought to be focusing my attentions on.

Just a heads-up for those of you who check in daily: I’ll be out of town from the night of the 20th until the 29th, but I plan on posting still. Just have to figure out how that’s going to happen.
